This little light of mine
How can we, as a society, cope with the fact that even a seemingly innocent act as lighting a tea-light has a negative environmental impact. This little light of mine is a reusable candle that uses food-oil, a Scandinavian take on the Diya.
This little light of mine
…is a reusable candle in porcelain that uses food-oil to power the flame. This means that any food-oil can be used, ranging from left over frying oil, to rapeseed oil and olive oil.
300 million tealights
… are used each year in Sweden. This amounts to 225 tonnes of aluminum. With the ever-ongoing confusion on how to sort the burnt out candle, a minority of the aluminum is recycled.
If the candles additionally are made out of paraffin, the environmental impact of lighting candles becomes even greater.
